Questions.

Everything you need to know about our fragrances, candles, wooden wicks, wax melts, delivery and caring for your Ember & Oak products.

01 / Fragrance
Find your scent.
From fragrance inspiration to choosing the right scent family, start here if you're deciding what belongs in your home.
What does βinspired byβ mean?
Our inspired fragrances take inspiration from the character and scent profile of well-known fragrances and reinterpret that style for home fragrance. Ember & Oak is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the designer fragrance houses referenced.
Do you use actual designer aftershave in the candles?
No. Our home-fragrance products use fragrance oils formulated for their intended product type. Designer fragrance names are used only to help describe the fragrance inspiration where applicable.
Will it smell exactly like the fragrance that inspired it?
It is an interpretation for home fragrance rather than the original perfume or aftershave. Fragrance also develops differently in wax and in a room than it does when worn on skin.
How do I choose a fragrance?
Start with the type of fragrance you already enjoy: Fresh & Clean, Woody & Sophisticated, Warm & Seductive or Bold & Modern. You can also use our Find Your Aftershave Match page.
What if I don't know what fragrance someone likes?
Use our Gift Finder, or contact us with a few fragrances or aftershaves they already enjoy and we'll help narrow it down.
Why does a fragrance smell different when the candle is burning?
Cold throw is the fragrance you smell from an unlit product; hot throw is the fragrance released as the wax warms. Different notes can become more or less noticeable during use.
Which fragrances are Fresh & Clean?
The Cool, The Yak, The Explorer, The Blue Channel, The Blue Dillon, The Victory, The Gio, The Saint and The Irishman sit within our Fresh & Clean family.
Which fragrances are Woody & Sophisticated?
Explore The Adventure, The Wood, The Leather, The Heat and The Explorer.
Which fragrances are Warm & Seductive?
Explore The Rouge, The Tycoon, The Arms, The Spicebomb, The Bandit, The Guilty, The Phantom and The Leather.
Which fragrances are Bold & Modern?
Try The Savage, The Boss, The Fierce, The G.O.A.T or The Phantom.
02 / Our candles
Made with intention.
Materials, production and the details behind every Ember & Oak candle.
What are Ember & Oak candles made from?
Our candles are hand-poured using our coconut soy wax blend, fragrance oil and wooden wicks.
Are your candles hand-poured?
Yes. Ember & Oak candles are hand-poured in Wales in small batches.
Do your candles use wooden wicks?
Yes. We use wooden wicks, chosen for their distinctive appearance and gentle crackle while burning.
What fragrance load do you use?
Our standard candle fragrance load is 9%, subject to the individual fragrance formulation and applicable safety requirements.
Why can handmade candles look slightly different?
Small variations in wax appearance can occur naturally between batches and after burning. This is part of working with a hand-poured wax product and does not automatically indicate a fault.
Where can I find safety and allergen information?
Visit our Safety Labels & Allergens page for fragrance-specific information and our Product Safety page for use and safety guidance.
03 / Candle care
A better burn.
A few simple habits help your wooden-wick candle burn more consistently and safely.
How should I prepare the wooden wick?
Before each burn, trim the wooden wick to approximately 5mm and remove loose charred wood. Only handle or trim the wick once the candle is fully cool.
How long should I burn my candle?
Burn for 2β4 hours at a time and never exceed 4 hours in one session.
What should I do on the first burn?
Allow the wax to melt fully towards the edges of the jar. This helps establish an even melt pool and reduce tunnelling.
Why won't my wooden wick stay lit?
Allow the candle to cool completely and check for excess char on the wick. Remove the loose burnt portion, leaving approximately 5mm before relighting. If the problem continues, contact us.
Why is my flame small?
A wooden-wick flame can naturally vary during a burn. If it repeatedly struggles or extinguishes, allow the candle to cool and check the wick before the next use.
What if the flame becomes too large?
Extinguish the candle safely and allow it to cool. Check the wooden wick for excess char before the next burn. Never alter the wick while it is lit.
Can I leave a candle burning unattended?
No. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and always extinguish it before sleeping or leaving the room.
Can I move a candle while it is burning?
No. The vessel and melted wax can become hot. Extinguish the candle and allow it to cool before moving it.
When should I stop using my candle?
Discontinue use when approximately 10mm of wax remains. Do not burn a candle all the way to the base of the vessel.
Where can I read the full candle-care guide?

04 / Wax melts & snap bars
Wick-free home fragrance.
Everything you need to know about our wick-free home-fragrance formats.
How big are your wax melts?
Our wax melts are supplied in a six-cell clamshell and contain approximately 75g of wax.
How do I use wax melts?
Remove an appropriate amount from the clamshell and place it in a suitable wax-melt burner, following the burner's instructions. Never add water or fragrance oil to the wax.
Can I reuse wax in my burner?
Yes. Wax can be reheated while it continues to release fragrance. Replace it once the fragrance has substantially faded.
How do I remove old wax from my burner?
Allow the burner and wax to cool and follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific burner. Never handle hot liquid wax.
What is a snap bar?
Our snap bars are fragranced wax divided into five sections, allowing you to break off the amount you want to use in a suitable wax-melt burner.
Are snap bars candles?
No. Snap bars do not contain a wick and must never be lit directly. They are designed to be melted in a suitable wax-melt burner.
